Lunchtime observations.

I work at a small restaurant on a college campus. I take notes during the lunch rush. Here they are...

UC Davis police officer pepper sprays sitting students because, well, just because.
Think that’s %$#ing horrible? The video’s worse.

I’m sorry, this has gone too far. This has happened in police department after police department, and it has gone too far. Our police look like the goons in Russia and China. Please watch this video and send it to everyone you know. This has gone too far.

UC davis students sitting on the ground getting pepper sprayed. this is unbelievable, but it keeps happening.

I think there’s an N.W.A. song that might be relevant here.

I get that police were told to clear the park, and they have to do their jobs. But I believe there’s a step between “Please leave, police orders” and pepper spraying someone right in the face. I have to believe that. The standard for cops is to only shoot someone if they’re being shot at (or are in danger of being shot at). I think the same standard needs to apply to pepper spray and tasers. Sure, these people “resisting,” but nonviolently. Two officers can lift someone off the ground, cuff them, and arrest them (which is what they were ordered to do) without causing serious physical harm. This is just all too much. I don’t know how these officers sleep at night…
